(1819-1900) Визе (Уайз), Исаак МайерРелигиозный деятель, на протяжении полувека лидер реформаторского течения в иудаизме [Reform Judaism]. Иммигрировал в США из Германии в 1846. В 1846-54 был раввином в г. Олбани, шт. Нью-Йорк. С 1854 в г. Цинциннати, шт. Огайо, где участвовал в создании Союза американских иудейских приходов [Union of American Hebrew Congregations] (1873), Ивритского колледжа Союза [Hebrew Union College] (1875) для обучения раввинов и Центральной конференции американских раввинов [Central Conference of American Rabbis] (1889), возглавлял все эти организации до конца своих дней. Считал иудаизм рациональной религией, которая не должна быть скована архаичными догмами. Отменил двухдневные выходные и ношение ермолок, сократил использование иврита в литургиях, ввел в практику синагог хоровое пение, воскресную службу и др.
